How It Works

Understanding BC's NTS System

British Columbia uses the National Topographic System (NTS) for legal land descriptions.

The NTS Hierarchy

The NTS system segments land into progressively smaller divisions, read from right to left:

Map SeriesLarge area identifier (82-104 for BC)
Map AreaLettered A through P
Map SheetNumbered 1 to 16
Block12 blocks per sheet (A-L)

BC Peace River Region (DLS)

The Peace River region in northeastern BC uses the Dominion Land Survey (DLS) system, the same as Alberta. This area includes Fort St. John and Dawson Creek.
